In 2017, Olga Mokrzycka and Nicolas Grospierre were invited to create a site-specific installation to be used as a scenic space for the Teatr Studio in Warsaw.
The installation was to serve as a space where theatre plays, performative acts and experimental interplays with the audience were to take place. This resulted in the Isolation Ward: a space whose formal expression referenced hospitals, asylums and other controlled environments. In addition to the sanitized colors and shiny black floor, the space is adorned with steel elements whose function remains uncertain, but loaded with kafkaesque connotations.
The Isolation Ward is at the same time a functional theatre space, but inverted. Instead of having a stage design created on the basis of a play, the Isolation Ward, as a scenic space, pre-exists any play, and the directors working in it have to adapt their dramaturgy to it.
